<body>NY Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress *accidentally shot himself in the leg* Friday night, suffering a leg wound. Burress, 31, had already been declared out of the game against the Washington Redskins today before the shooting. The Giants then later wrote a statement &quot;Obviously, our primary concern is for Plaxico's health and well-being and given the circumstances we are relived to say he was released for the hospital at approximately 2 p.m. At this point, we are attempting to gather all the facts surrounding this incident. This incident could become a matter for law enforcement officials and because of that, we have no comment to any of the details&quot;. The Giants +*did not*+ provide further details and did not indicate how serious he was hurt or when he might be able to play football again. Burress had already been declared out of today's game against the Redskins because of a hamstring injury. The report by Fox, the New York Daily News, and other media outlets indicated that Burress suffered a weak injury that is not at all life threatening when he did shoot himself in the leg on Friday night. The incident happened at a nightclub Plaxico was at near the East Side of Manhattan. Reports say the club was called the Latin Quarter, according to ESPN. Yahoo! Sports says that Burress was not badly wounded and he could be able to play again in the upcoming weeks. Police were investigating the area and say that Burress could have to face charges if he was not licensed to carry the harmful weapon.
Burress has not had a great year this year, he has been suspended for one game without pay by the team after reportedly missing a team meeting in September. He was fined $45,000 by the NFL for three separate incidents during the October 19 game against the 49ers in which he was penalized for complaining about an offensive pass interference call. He was also benched in the Oct. 26 game at Pittsburgh by Tom Coughlin after missing a session the previous day.

+*My Thoughts on This*+

This is great for the Redskins, bad for the Giants. Just one more receiver Washington does not have to deal with. Eli Manning is facing both Carlos Rogers and Shawn Spring (who finished the game against Seattle) two solid corners, and will obviously not have Plaxico Burress. The best idea for Eli in this one may be a third receiver Steve Smith against DeAngelo Hall who is more like an average corner. Brandon Jacobs will most likely play in this one for he had skipped practice. This is an early game, and the weather right now is horrible with cold and rainy gusts. Portis came up with 84 rushing yards in Week 1 against the Giants. I think he will do even better in this one.

*Redskins in this one, 42-31*</body>
