<body>Baseball is finally here, and with it comes the anticipation of all 30 ball clubs that they are World Series contenders. In my opinion March and April, are the best months of the baseball season, yes even greater than October. Because in October there is only eight teams trying to win the World Series, while the rest of baseball is only left to hope for next year. But in March and April, every team is hopeful of their season, starting with the Yankees and ending with the Royals. Fans all over the nation can take hope when they see the Tampa Bay Rays go from 66 wins in 2007, all the way to 97 wins and an appearance in the World Series in 08. This year many people are predicting the Kansas City Royals to be this year&#8217;s underdog contender, and rightly so. The Royals have had the top pick in the draft for the last 5 years, and are poised with top quality talent to finally field a winning team. The beauty of April is simply that every team is tied for first place. The Washington Nationals are tied with the World Champion Phillies in the Eastern division.
The year will be full of surprises and twist that will keep even the smartest experts on their toes. Last year no one picked the Phillies and Rays to be playing the last games of the year. Likewise every one was shocked when Derek Jeter was playing golf in October. That is what is so unique about baseball, that even a team like the Florida Marlins who don&#8217;t even make enough to pay A.Rod for one year (they made 21,836,500 in 2008) can beat the Yankees who made 209,081,579 in 2008. I hate to get caught up in numbers but I find it remarkable that the two World Series teams last year made a combined 66,991,100 less than the Yankees last year. What should this tell us? It tells us that money cannot buy wins; it takes a team that has chemistry and who love the game, and who work their butts of in February so that come October they can still be playing. So with the season just six days away, I can hardly wait to hear the roar of the crowd, the yell of the vendors, hear the chatter of players, and the passion for winning. This is baseball and I live for this.
