<body>Frank Wren is looking a little less stupid, as the long days of the off season slowly tick away. His recent acquisition of Japanese pitcher Kenshin Kawakami, and former Dodger, Derick Lowe, put the Braves in a prime position to compete in 2009. Wren started the off season well with the acquisition of Javier Vazquez. But Braves fans started getting a little mad when he failed to reach deals with the Padres for Peavy, or when he failed to reach terms with Burnett, or when he let Furcal slip out of his fingers, or when he unclassily let John Smoltz go to the accursed American League. But Braves fans probably will forgive him if on opening day their team is fit to compete.
The deal that is reportedly going through will be for four years, and with Kenshin being signed for three years, the Braves are set up for a couple years as far as pitching is concerned.
Now if the Braves would trade for Young of the Texas Rangers, freeing up Yunel Escobar for a huge deal with the Padres, then Frank Wren would look far better to all of us Braves fans. </body>
