So, I'm getting ready to do my WNBA halftime show on ESPN2 Tuesday night, and it happened. The newswire flashed at the top of my computer screen, "Favre to Retire." At first, I thought bummer. Sure, Brett Favre has put everybody through the ringer for 3 straight months, with his, "will he or won't he play" business. But I have to admit, I'm bummed he won't be around to stoke the ire of Packers fans and help Vikings fan get really geeked for the upcoming season. I guess part of the reason why I'll miss Favre is I've watched him dazzle on Sundays for nearly 2 decades! He's started every game he suited up for since September 20, 1992.

While reading some of Ed Werders quotes from Favre, one stuck out in particular. Favre said quote, "I'm 39 with a lot of sacks to my name." I looked it up, and Favre has been sacked 4 hundred 69 times and yes I counted that questionable take down by Michael Strahan for the NFL sack record:) It is a lot of wear and tear, so I get that. I also think Favre may have been afraid of failure. Recovered and reportedly healthy post arm surgery, if he stunk it up, there would be no injury to blame. Still, I'll miss his guile and will to win and I'll wish him well in his retirement while I look for the next gunslinger to come along!

Will Anyone Take a Chance?

While Brett Favre says so long to the NFL, Michael Vick is hoping to get back in it. Vick coming back to play doesn't impact me as a fan, since I don't think my Seattle team has much interest in Vick. Especially since Seahawks head coach Jim Mora, Jr. survived the Vick pre-dog fighting experience in Atlanta, I think he'd pass on a second shot to coach Vick. I am very interested to see if any team takes a flier on Vick and how involved a roll former head coach Tony Dungy will play with Vick and his potential new team. Listening to ESPN Radio, I heard the question posed, "If Vick actually played for Dungy, would he have gotten into so much trouble?" I can't help but think, probably yes. Because while Dungy can preach right and wrong, its tough to make someone forget how they were raised and a big part of their culture coming up.

Has Vick paid enough of a price for his crimes? When you consider, he will no longer be Vick the great and will always be associated to killing dogs then I say yes. For the rest of his life, no matter how he redeems himself from this point, he will be known for exacting crimes against helpless animals. So I ask you, as a diehard fan of your NFL team, do you want Vick on your roster? It's definitely food for thought. Until the next time, may your team give you reason to cheer!
