Watching a close relative being inducted into Cooperstown's baseball hall of fame. The look on my parents face while he spoke I'll never forget...
Show up to the park as if your boo-boo don't stink. Carry your head high. Tell yourself "I'm the best ball player out here". Then go out and prove it for the next few hours. Even if you really aren't. Show up with a can do attitude and a "How dare they come here thinking they are going to beat me... us".
When things go wrong, don't sweat nor fret. Never let em see you sweat or show a weak spot in your armor. Get over it fast my man. Do not go back out there worrying nor dwelling about what just happened rather its good or bad. Your chances for making a mistake increase. Your chances to succeed dwindle when you do. You just can't change the past. Stay in the moment and task on hand.
You've already planned your work, time to work your plan. Getting upset is not part of the plan. Attitudes are like a contagious disease on a team. It spreads like wild fire. Both good and bad. Toss your helmet or bat after a poor at-bat and the next thing you know, your buddy is doing the same. Sooner or later you got a whole squad doing this and then going back out on the field with this funk air about themselves. Next thing you know is we've got errors. Now there is a whole new problem, something more to fret about. So don't get mad my man... get even.
I say these words and more every spring to somebody or two. Yeah its little league advice... but I swear some pros could use these words of wit too...
